Prince William thanks Irish Guards for Their
Royal Wedding Presence at Medal Presentation

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William paid tribute today to the "extraordinary" soldiers who, within days of returning from fighting in Afghanistan, took part in his marriage celebrations. Six soldiers from the 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, swapped their combat uniforms for ceremonial dress to help out with the Prince William and Princess Catherine's Royal Wedding - with a handful returning to the UK just seven days earlier.

Wearing their famous bearskin hats and red tunics, the soldiers formed a Queen's Guard when Prince William tied the knot with Princess Catherine on April 29. Prince William, who became Colonel of the Irish Guards in February, wore their striking red ceremonial uniform on his big day.
